The second week of deer camp...

Well, as some people may know by reading through the old posts, that I got two bucks last year when I went hunting. My intent this year was to hopefully get a buck, but at least a nice-sized doe.

I took a vacation day for Nov. 17 so that we could drive over to my in-laws on Thursday night and I could be out in the blind Friday morning. This year was a packed house in terms of hunting. I was hunting in my typical corner blind, my father-in-law, Lee, was hunting in the woods to my west, and Alex, my wife's cousin's boyfriend, was hunting in the woodrow to my west.

We got out there pretty early, and I was hoping to bag the first deer of the year. However, that quickly ended when I decided not to take a shot at some does that came out about 30 feet in front of me. I wanted a buck. As it was, Lee got the first deer of the year, a 5-pointer in the woods.

After seeing those does, the rest of the day and the next morning went downhill. I didn't see another deer until 10 am Saturday morning, and those does were about 200+ yards away from me.

So, 2006 was an unsuccessful hunting year, but I can't wait for next year.
